Learning Goals
1. Develop proficiency in textual analysis: Students will learn to analyze a wide range of texts and identify their themes, structures, and narrative strategies.
2. Enhance critical thinking: Students will engage in critical interpretation of narrative content by considering social, cultural, and historical contexts and offering insightful perspectives.
3. Advance narrative writing skills: Based on their chosen advanced writing courses, students will develop narrative skills suited to their own interests and goals, applying them in fields such as literature, journalism, and creative content.
4. Apply narrative techniques across disciplines: Students will explore how narrative can be used effectively in diverse media and contexts, including screenwriting, digital content development, and brand storytelling.
5. Integrate research and writing: Students will learn to conduct in-depth research and synthesize analytical findings with creative thinking to produce narrative projects of academic or practical value.

Course Selection Guidelines<br>1. Foundation Courses:<br>Foundation courses cover a range of themes and aim to develop students’ skills in textual analysis while providing the conceptual groundwork for the capstone course. Students are encouraged to consider the following strategies when selecting their three foundation courses, or they may create their own combinations based on personal interests and future goals.<br><br>a. Interdisciplinary Exploration Track<br>For students interested in a wide range of narrative forms and textual genres, this track encourages exploration across diverse cultural and thematic areas. Suggested combinations include:<br>o Fiction: Postcolonial Asia + Jewish Literature + Selected Readings of James Joyce's Fiction<br>o British Women Writers and the Novel + Twentieth-Century Irish Drama + Edgar Allan Poe and You<br>o Coming-of-Age Novels + Contemporary Irish Novels + Ghost Narratives in Modern Anglo-American Drama<br>b. Thematic Focus Track<br>For students who wish to develop more in-depth knowledge in a specific literary tradition or cultural context. Suggested combinations include:<br>o Irish Literature: Selected Readings of Irish Fiction + Contemporary Irish Novels + Twentieth-Century Irish Drama<br>o Postcolonial and Global Narratives: Fiction: Postcolonial Asia + Fiction: Postcolonial Africa + Jewish Literature<br>o Gender and Society in Literature: British Women Writers and the Novel + Selected Readings of Irish Fiction + Coming-of-Age Novels<br>2. Advanced Courses:<br>Advanced courses are suitable for all students. Those who are interested in pursuing academic research are especially encouraged to take Advanced Writing – Research Papers.
