學習目標
The program of Epistemology, Methodology and Philosophy of finance (EMPF) urges the students to fully understand the development of methodology of social sciences which include philosophy of finance. There are many philosophical ideas in philosophy of finance being required to be analyzed through philosophical methods. The mathematical models which occupy the current researches of finance are vulnerable to deal with the problems and difficulties arising from the challenges of uncertainty. The main reasons of these problems and difficulties refer to the instant and uncontrollable changes taking place in the financial world. The challenges of uncertainty are not merely related to information, technology, policy, etc. The problems and difficulties they raise are uncertain as they are by nature un-predictable.
The idea of unpredictability is comprehensibly illustrated in the philosophical course: Epistemology. Through the learning of epistemology the students can conceive the idea of fallibilism. Fallibilism, in scientific methodology, refers mainly to the idea of falsificationism proposed by the philosopher, Karl Popper (1902-1994). Fallibilism exerts and reiterates the real practices of science and explains also the nature of science. The function of fallibilism elucidates also why we need to be attentive in the market about all sorts of risks. In the prevention of risks in the market, we should rely very much on the systematic understanding of the nature of market. In this regard of systematization, ideas of physics can be a great assistance as all elements of the market are constituted by their micro-structure. In the micro-structure composing market, physics can explain its regularity. Physics hence explains not merely matters but also minds which constitute the market. The course of Physics in Management is designed to implement the regularities referring to the market. And the course is characterized by using the most delicate attitude dealing with the management of risks. In the course of the philosophy of Finance, three above-mentioned courses (Epistemology, Scientific Methodology, and Management in Physics) refer to the Philosophy of Finance put forward by George Soros who compiles together the idea of fallibilism, the idea of falsification and the management of risks in market. All the ideas combined illustrate fully the cruciality of the Philosophy of Finance.
