Course Structure<br><br>Level 1 – Foundation Courses<br>Students take one of the following:<br> ‧ Introduction to East Asian Studies: Provides background knowledge on East Asian regional studies, giving students a basic understanding of the politics, economy, society, and culture of the region, as well as an appreciation of the importance of studying East Asia.<br><br> ‧ Contemporary Taiwanese Politics: Examines Taiwan’s historical development, political system, international relations, and contemporary challenges, highlighting its pivotal role in the East Asian region.<br><br>Level 2 – Core Courses<br>Students choose two out of the three, with each combination designed to meet specific learning goals:<br><br>1. Seminar on Asian Democratization + Seminar on Asian Regionalism: Understands how domestic politics shape regional relations.<br>2. Seminar on Asian Democratization + East Asia in a Global Context / East Asia in World Perspective: Understands how globalization and world civilizations influence East Asian political development.<br>3. Seminar on Asian Regionalism + East Asia in a Global Context / East Asia in World Perspective: Understands the interaction between globalization and regionalism.<br><br>Level 3 – Advanced Courses<br>Advanced courses expand the scope of East Asian political studies by exploring the intersections between regional political issues and other thematic areas, with particular attention to the implication of China’s rise for East Asia’s political development.<br>Six courses are offered under this framework, from which students are required to choose three, allowing them to specialize in one of the following three areas:<br><br>1. East Asian Regional Politics and Economic Relations<br> o Seminar on Political Economy of East Asia <br> o Seminar on Political and Economic Interaction across the? Taiwan Strait<br> o Seminar on the Political Economy of China<br><br>2. China’s Political Reforms and Its Policy toward East Asia<br> o Seminar on the Political Economy of China<br> o Seminar on China’s Political and Economic Reform after Deng<br> o Technological Development, Politics and Society of China <br><br>3. The Impact of China’s Domestic Political Development Model on East Asian Regional Governance<br> o Seminar on China’s Political and Economic Reform after Deng (or Technological Development, Politics and Society of China)<br> o Seminar on China and Global Climate Governance<br> o Seminar on the?
